Fall back and Diabetes

 

A few hours from now, the daylight savings time will expire. Everyone is now feeling the coming of cold months in the United States again.

As I took my sugar test, I had a whopping 279, a tremendous increase in my blood sugar. I had to jump and take my Metformin right away. It was followed by another overwhelming moment. It’s simply not right to say I have this condition, and it’s okay.

Unlike time and hours, diabetes is irreversible. It is a lifestyle disease that take a toll if not properly addressed. I am aware of it.

Lancets and Test Strips as a Way of Life

 

Today I began my journey to wellness. After receiving my blood sugar test kit, I figured out how to use it. I am naturally afraid of blood, and has a low threshold to pain. Will I endure my first DIY blood test? LOL!

After after the directions, I started inserting the lancet, set up the machine, and install the test strip. Lo and behold! That was the most painful day ever. Literally painful because I wasted four strips and hurt myself four times before I could get blood that would perfectly fill the gauge of the strip. LOL!

It was a sight of relief afterwards, though.

My first score:

139 mg/dL (before breakfast)
177 lbs

How to React When You Have Diabetes

 

I had my blood work a day ago. Today, I received the sad news from my doctor: I have Type 2 diabetes.

It took me a few moments to compose myself. I was grasping for the correct way of reacting to the situation. However, it has been said — with finality.

The next thing I did was to gather every strength I had. I began rationalizing it. I will be carrying a different lifestyle from now on. Do I have a choice?

My mother had diabetes. I knew how to care for a diabetic. I must know how to care for myself well.

The rest is history.
